              Optical Node
Go from Big and Heavy to Small and Light

If you''re stocking one of the super-size 4x4 nodes in your warehouse for node splits, you''re probably committing to a few other unique stock items to support those nodes:

              Big pedestals
              Big vaults
              Bigger AC power packs
              Bigger backup power

They practically create their own universe of big stuff.

With the Emerald 4x4, you use the same small pedestals and vaults that you use for your mini bridger amps or mini nodes. That helps the

environment, keeps your neighbors happy and, best of all, keeps your bottom line "green" by reducing inventory costs.

              The Power Heat Relationship

One of the main reasons the super sized nodes are so big is simply because they HAVE to be. The inefficient way that the gain blocks are selected from optics to output means a lot of wasted power, especially in the "fully loaded" 4x4 configuration. This wasted power has to go somewhere so the housing has to act as a giant heatsink to dissipate the excess heat to the ambient air. Even with all this heat sinking the big nodes can reach some pretty toasty temperatures.

The Emerald gain blocks are selected for optimum power-to-performance ratio for each configuration. So the Emerald can be smaller without being hotter. Keeping power consumption down not only lowers the electric bill and the thermal profile but it also lowers the cost of the hardware required to supply electricity.

              Deep Node Advantages

The Emerald is just as happy in its 1x2 or 1x4 state as it is in its full-fledged 4x4 form. While it''s already a mini-node size-wise, the Emerald component migration is exactly the opposite of other manufacturers, where big node optics are shoehorned into a mini bridger housing. These manufacturers add complexity to your warehouse with special mini bridger RF modules and mini-node specific power supplies.

All of the Emerald components- housing, power supply, RF module, optics- will migrate back and forth between your mini-nodes and your fully segmentable 4x4s. That''s lower stock complexity and a happier purchasing department.

              Light, Small AND Neat

Most mini nodes are designed as "after thought" complements to their big node siblings. This means a lot of design compromises to force fit what was really never meant to be.

The Emerald is designed from the ground up for effective use of space and maintenance friendliness as a full-featured 4x4 node in a mini bridger housing. The RF module is arranged so plug- ins are easy to spot and handle. The fiber tray is full sized and swings away from the optics lid tackle box style to ease fiber and optics module work. Even the thumb sized optics sport regular sized test points, full sized pull rings, and easy to reach pad locations.

              Wavelength Support

The Emerald is designed to be a one node solution for all HFC networks. As such, ACI is committed to making sure that the Emerald offers not only all currently deployed standard, ITU-T CWDM, and ITU-T DWDM transmitter wavelengths, but also the popular manufacturer specific wavelengths.

              Digital Mux Return Path

The Emerald Optics family also includes a digital mux return module and associated headend receiver to meet your long reach and wavelength conservation needs.

              Traffic Management Your Way

Seems that some of the big node manufacturers would prefer to ignore the fact that traffic growth in a lot of nodes occurs asymmetrically- maybe one port will have more subscribers than the other three or sometimes heavy users just all show up on the same port or in another asymmetrical way. The limited 1x4 /2x2/4x4 options that some give won''t cover these all too common cases when the time comes to split a node service area.

The Emerald RF module port feeds are fully interchangeable so that any port can be fed by any receiver or transmitter. The Emerald also has configuration modules that suit multiple purposes- including dedicated port/multiport splits. If you want to change the node configuration to meet a certain traffic configuration you won''t have to contact our factory for a custom solution- just change the configuration on your multi-purpose configuration module and you''re ready to go.
